Picture a bustling metropolis in your vicinity, and you find yourself in need of medical assistance. Regrettably, there’s just a solitary doctor serving the entire town, and his clinic is situated on the outskirts, far from the city center. With a lengthy waiting list, public transportation disrupted due to a strike, you’re left with no choice but to trek on foot. Adding to the challenge, it happens to be the hottest summer in centuries, with temperatures soaring to 45°C in the shade, while the relentless sun beats down relentlessly.
This paints a similar picture to the conditions we encounter here in the Turkana region of north-west Kenya. A single doctor shoulders the immense responsibility of caring for a population of 60,000 people. Prevalent diseases like malaria, typhoid, yellow fever, and AIDS pose significant health challenges. Adding to the complexity, the distances that must be traversed are vast, and the road infrastructure is in deplorable condition, if it exists at all. Following heavy rains, roads become impassable due to surging rivers.
Conversely, numerous villages boast small airstrips, and in many cases, flying becomes the sole safe means of travel due to the looming threat of bandits and tribal conflicts that jeopardize every journey. Nestled in the heart of the Turkana region, within the humble village of Namoruputh, stands a health station founded by Peter’s father, Martin Franz. Over the course of the past four decades, our aircraft has proven to be an invaluable asset, significantly reducing travel time and facilitating the transport of doctors, nurses, and critical medical supplies to support this vital medical outpost.
This represents just some of the numerous vital functions that our Cessna 182 has fulfilled during its many years of service. Your support is instrumental in ensuring we can continue to maintain, fuel, and keep this aircraft flying. By doing so, we can not only sustain our ongoing projects but also embark on new initiatives that will bring blessings to countless individuals in the future. Your generous donations will help us make a lasting impact in remote communities.
